It is understood that Mr Rabuka had called a party meeting to discuss regarding this issue and present SODELPA members had agreed to vote for Nailatikau as the Speaker however later the members showed their disaapointment and changed their mind to go ahead and nominate Tanya Waqanika as the Speaker of the House.

It is also believed that the opposition to Rabuka was led by Niko Nawaikula.

“After I listened to their views, I realised that although some were willing to go along with my instructions, some had reservations so I decided to withdraw my instructions and discuss it.”

“It was a show of no confidence in my leadership,” Rabuka told his party.
