Prime Minister of Fiji to Address UN Human Rights Council

Prime Minister of Fiji Bainimarama will address the Human Rights Council tomorrow while the country itself is broiled in multiple human rights abuses.

Amnesty International urges Fiji to withdraw its reservations to the UNCAT; remove barriers to justice, truth and reparation for human rights violations; and establish an independent and effective mechanism to investigate and end the systematic use of violence by the authorities.

Multiple deaths and torture of prisoners can continuously be seen in Fiji.

Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama was this evening accorded a traditional welcome ceremony by members of the Fijian community living in France and Switzerland at the Fiji Mission in Geneva.

The head of government is in Geneva to address the 40th Session of the Human Rights Council tomorrow.
