The Fiji Police Force is concerned with the number of cases of alleged suicide cases where victims have felt that they had no other option but to resort to extreme measures to solve their problems.
The first case involving a 41 year old woman from Drauniivi village resulted in the victim sustaining 50% burns and she later passed away at the Lautoka Hospital on the 14th of May. The incident took place following a heated argument between the victim and her husband.
In the second case, a man in his late 60s died after setting himself alight in Togomasi in Nadi on the 13th of this month.
And the latest case also reported from the Western Division, involves a 27year old woman who died after setting herself alight after she was not happy with her partner drinking grog at a cousin’s place.
The incident occurred at Nagado Village in Nadi on the 12th of May.
The attempted suicide toll currently stands at 39 compared to 33 for the same period last year, while the suicide toll stands at 33 compared to 27.
Police is urging people to talk and share your problems rather than resorting to drastic means that unfortunately for some has resulted in the loss of life.
