A fire that broke out last afternoon in the boiler area of the CWM Hospital has been brought under control and poses no further threat.
In quick response to the situation, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services had to temporarily move patients into prearranged evacuation areas within CWM Hospital says Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqanibete.
In a press release Dr Waqanibete says some of the patients have been moved back into their wards and others will be moved back to their normal wards tomorrow morning.
“In light of this unfortunate incident, some services at the CWM Hospital will be disrupted for the next few days, especially the functions of the boiler and the laundry.”
The services in antenatal clinic will be starting later than usual, from 10am tomorrow.
The Ministry will ensure that the functions of priority areas such as labor wards, operating theater services, intensive care unit and the emergency department are not disrupted.
All other wards at the CWM Hospital will function on emergency mode. Non-core services such as pharmacy and clinics will also be disrupted.
Teams from the Ministry are on the ground working around the clock with various relevant stakeholders to bring services back to normal.
The Ministry apologises for the inconvenience caused.
