The Attorney General Aiyaz Saiyed Khaiyum in a press conference this afternoon, said that the electronic registration for newborn babies and obtaining a birth certificate copy electronically is absolutely free for Fijians.
He says that there has been alot of misinformation about the increase in fees of obtaining birth death and marriage certificates fee increase.
The last time the Births, Death and Marriage Registry had an increase in fee was in 2000 and it is 19 years now, he said.
He said Fijians can now, for free, register babies and access copies of birth certificate through the digital app which the Prime Minister launched on April 12th.
He said that the second misinformation that has also gone out is that people saying that they have to pay $3000 for civil marriage however, it is false. He said that the fee is for marriage celebrant.
A marriage officiant, solemniser, Celebrant, or “vow master” is a person who officiates at a wedding ceremony.
