A body has been found in the search of missing medical helicopter.
“So in the last hour a body was found. Search continues in that area by police, RFMF personnel and other stakeholders that are in the area. That will continue till last light tonight and if it is required – we continue tomorrow. But that is the situation now. It is a search and recovery rather than a search and rescue,” Fiji Navy Commander told the media.
While the identity remains to be unknown, search and recovery efforts continue.
Items from missing medical helicopter flying from Naituba Island to Labasa hospital with a patient has been found at sea.
They were found by police officers who have been combing the waters of Natewa Bay this morning.
The search for the three people including a child on board continues.
The aerial search is also still underway.
The helicopter was conducting a medical evacuation from Naitauba Island to the Labasa Hospital when it went off the radar late yesterday.
Activation of Search and Rescue Centre:
The Divisional Police Commander North SSP Eparama Waqa has activated a search and rescue team following a report received from the Search and Rescue Coordination Center last night of an overdue helicopter.
The missing helicopter operating from Savusavu left Naitauba Island with three persons on board including a child, bound for the Labasa Hospital.
A team is now operating from the Korotasere Community Post as search and rescue efforts get underway this morning.
Search and Rescue officials say that the overdue helicopter went down in the Natewa Bay.
