Attorney General and Minister for Economy who is part of the Privileges committee has stepped down from the committee and has been replaced by Minster for Agriculture Dr Mahendra Reddy.
The Privilege Committee at this hour is deliberating over the two cases referred by the Speaker of the House after he found that a prima facie breach has occurred in both instances, one by Pio Tikoduadua and another by Voreqe Bainimarama.
Speaking to FBC News, Mr Khaiyum said that he had written a letter to the Speaker of the House fr him to step down and let an independent process continue since he had made public statements on the issue.
Opposition Leader Sitiveni Rabuka has also stepped down from the committee after making public comments regarding the issue. He was replaced by Mosese Bulitavu who was embroiled in making racist remarks last month.
Meanwhile, NFP MP Pio Tikoduadua is giving his statement before the Privileges Committee. Also to appear before the committee are MP Lenora Qereqeretabua and two other NFP staff.
The Privilege Committee has been given till Thursday 5th September to decide on the alleged breaches by persons of interest and table the report in the parliament during the time which the Speaker has allocated in Thursday ‘s sitting.
