The Fijian Government owes $9.9 million dollars in grant to University of the South Pacific.
While presenting a report to Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Affairs, USP Vice Chancellor told the committee that the university was still waiting for the Government to pay $9.9 million in grants for 2018-2019 financial year.
According to Times report State Owes Universities Fund Grants, the committee was told that government owed both major universities in millions of dollars which Fijian government had to pay in last financial year.
“We are not alone in this, the same happened with Fiji National University so it’s not like USP has been treated differently.” Prof Ahluwalia said.
The Vice-Chancellor also said that Australian government had also slashed funding to USp from $14 million to $3.5 million due to allegations of mismanagement at the university in the tears before his appointment.
